Afrobeat legend, and four time Grammy Award nominee, Femi Kuti brings the recently ended Felabration vibe to Abuja this November.
The
event which is being put together by Chocolate City Group, with support
from Etisalat Nigeria, is targeted at consumers with a fine taste for
live music experiences. Femi who has toured extensively throughout
Europe, America and Africa, together with his Positive Force band, has
performed in major cities of the world including Lagos, London, Paris,
New York, Glasgow and Glastonbury.
He has also collaborated with major international acts such as Common, Macy Gray, D’Angelo, Wizkid, 2Baba, and Nile Rodgers.
Born
in London and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, Femi began his musical career
playing with his father, the renowned, Fela Kuti and his Egypt 80 band.
In 1986, Femi started his own group, the Positive Force, and began
establishing himself as an artist independent of his father'.
Just like his past three albums, rap has never been absent from
Olamide’s career, and his next album will still be a glowing addition to
Hip-hop.
Olamide’s sixth studio album, " The Glory", will be released on December 26, 2016, and it will definitely have plenty of rap in it.
The
Nigerian rapper who has released a studio album every year since his
debut in 2011, is working on maintaining his figures and keeping his
momentum going, by dropping a studio album in 2016.
The
new album is titled " The Glory", which released in December, as songs
on the album have already been recorded. It will feature hit song ‘Who you epp’, along with other singles. The official artwork has been released, and it looks like this:
This will be Olamide’s 7 album. In 2011, he launched his career with “Rapsodi”, and went further to release a string of albums every year including “YBNL” (2012), “Baddest Guy Ever Liveth” (2013), “Street OT” (2014), “2 Kings” (joint album with Phyno, 2015), and “Eyan Mayweather” (2015).

2016 has been a big year for the rapper. Under his leadership and guidance, his record label, YBNL, has released an album (“YAGI”) for rapper Lil Kesh, who have subsequently left the company, to found his personal imprint. It is currently still promoting Adekunle Gold’s “Gold” album. He has also began work on another of his signed rappers, Chinko Ekun, who is releasing singles.

Japan's PM Shinzo Abe has said he
has "great confidence" in US President-elect Donald Trump and he
believes they can build a relationship of trust.
Mr Abe described the 90-minute meeting in Trump Tower, New York, as "candid", with a "warm atmosphere".
Some of Mr Trump's campaign rhetoric cast doubt over long-standing US alliances, including with Japan.
The meeting was Mr Trump's first face-to-face with a world leader since winning the presidential election.
The US and Japan have been key allies since the end of World War Two, when the US helped Japan rebuild its economy.
The president-elect has vowed to scrap the Trans-Pacific
Partnership trade deal, which Mr Abe strenuously supports as a means of
countering China's growing economic strength.
The deal was approved by the Japanese parliament, despite the likelihood that it would be cancelled when Mr Trump takes office.

Mr Trump has also said Japan needs to pay more to
maintain US troops on its soil, and has floated the idea that Japan and

arranged when Mr Abe rang the president-elect to congratulate him,
mentioning that he would be passing through New York on the way to an
Asia-Pacific trade summit in Peru.
Speaking after the meeting, Mr
Abe said: "We were able to have a very candid talk over a substantial
amount of time. We held it in a very warm atmosphere.
"I do
believe that without confidence between the two nations the alliance
would never function in the future and as the outcome of today's
discussion I am convinced Mr Trump is a leader in whom I can have great
confidence.
The Japanese leader gave few
details of the meeting but added the two agreed to meet again for deeper
talks on a wider range of issues.

Trump since his surprise election victory, also met Mr Abe at Trump
Tower.
Media speculation over her role has included the possibility of her becoming ambassador to Japan.
In

office inside the Manhattan skyscraper.

Emerging from meetings with Senate Democratic leader

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama has urged his successor to stand up to Russia if it deviates from US "values and international norms".
Speaking
after talks with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin, Mr
Obama said he hoped Mr Trump would "not simply take a realpolitik
approach" to dealing with Russia.
The Minister of state for
petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu has revealed that the Federal Government’s goal
is to deregulate the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.
The minister also lamented that the country was producing crude oil even at the price of $27 per barrel.
He said though the government is not there yet, it will continue to fine-tune the process until the goal is achieved.
According to Kachikwu, “At
every given time in the history of every country, you will always have
partial deregulation. The reason being that you have to catch up each
time and make an amendment, and even if it is just one day, you might
have some level of subsidy for that one or two days before it is
removed.
“What
is important is the goal post; where are we headed? Where we are headed
is to try and free the industry, so that it can do its own rules, set
its own prices itself. There are few mechanics that we still need to get
in place properly. We can’t forget the fact that we still have foreign
exchange challenges and that income to government is still very tight.
“You
still have to find a way to balance that. But what is important is what
the objective is. The objective is still to fully deregulate.”
The
minister also lamented that the country was producing crude oil at $27,
adding that no country will keep up production at this level, when
there is uncertainty in the global oil industry.
He said “There
are lots of things we still need to address. Cost is a key issue. We
are still at $27 per barrel. No decent country would produce oil at $27
per barrel at a time when the pricing is unpredictable. Again, we are
going to try to get those figures below $18 per barrel.”
Kachikwu also warned that the nation’s refineries might turn to scrap, if no urgent measure is taken to revamp it.
Adding that “Refineries
would have to work; it is really not an option anymore. And not only
should they work, they have to work very quickly. The reality is that if
we do not privatise and we do not concession — which is not what we are
doing — then we have a responsibility to find private capital to get
them to where they should be.
“This
is because if we do not get them to work, in 2019, I can assure you
that if Dangote system works well, we would have scraps, we won’t have
refineries, because by then, it would be too late to do anything.”
The minister also revealed that the Federal Government has spent $40b in the Niger Delta over the last four years.
The Federal Government on
Thursday expressed the possibility that the Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) would suspend its going nationwide strike.
ASUU had embarked on a one-week warning strike to demand the implementation of previous agreements with the Federal Government
Dr Clement Illo,
the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, told
newsmen in Abuja that government was positive that ASUU would resolve
the crises soon.
The News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) recalls that a meeting with ASUU, convened by the Senate
President, the Committee on Labour and the Committee on Education, among
others, ended in deadlock on Wednesday.
Illo, who described the meeting as “a very positive step”, said the three-hour meeting recorded huge success toward resolving the issues.
He, however, said “it is still work in progress and we are still meeting tomorrow (Friday) and on Monday.
“But
the indications are very positive that the issues will be resolved as
quickly as possible. We are sure of success on Friday but if we did not,
then we will definitely succeed by Monday.
“So,
the possibility like I said of suspending the strike is still very
positive because there is high possibility that the strike would be
suspended.
“This is because the issues have been very well articulated and already, there is a focus on how it will be resolved,” he said.
The
permanent secretary said government would do everything possible to
ensure that the process of implementing the agreement was resolved as
quick as possible.
He added that “like I said, it is very positive, why should government not implement something it signed in good faith?.”
It
would be recalled that ASUU had embarked on one-week warning strike to
demand the implementation of previous agreements with Federal Government
and the removal of universities from the Treasury Single Account (TSA).
Separatist group, Niger Delta Avengers, has declared that it will
continue to carry out its activities until President Muhammadu Buhari is
ready to genuinely address the problems of the region.
The group which has claimed responsibility for several pipeline attacks
in the Niger Delta warned that it will continue to impede all avenues to
export crude oil from the region.NDA claimed that contrary to reports, it was not approached by
anybody from the Federal Government when a ceasefire was declared,
adding that the government did not create any platform to address the
problems of the region, Vanguard reports.
The report quoted a source from the ranks of the militant group as
saying, “This phase of our struggle encapsulates our determination to
ensure that the petro-dollar from the Niger Delta is not used to develop
the 97 per cent (95 per cent ) of those President

The chairman of the
Standing Committee of the National People's Congress underlined the need
for continuation of friendly ties between Iran and China.
In a message
cabled on Wednesday to congratulate his Iranian counterpart Ali Larijani
on his re-election as the speaker of the Parliament, Zhang Dejiang
stressed the deepening of cooperation between the Parliaments of the two
countries in the coming period.
The message reads that the National People's Congress and Iranian
Parliament have always maintained friendly relations in recent years.
Zhang expressed hope that interaction and cooperation of the
legislative bodies of the two countries would deepen and Iran-China
comprehensive strategic partnership would further expand.
The
Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), says
contractors will resume work on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway next week.
Fashola, who spoke at the inaugural Buharimeter Town Hall meeting in
Abuja on Thursday, said contractors had abandoned several projects
because the last administration owed them money.
The former governor of Lagos State said even though the Muhammadu
Buhari-led administration had yet to release funds to the contractors,
they were willing to return to site because they trusted the integrity
of the new government.
Fashola stated, “In 2014, we spent N45bn on roads for the whole
country and we spent N18bn on roads in 2015. Now, the fallout of
meetings with our contractors generally is that they have not been paid
for three years but budgets were made for the last three years.
“We have been having meetings with some contractors on the basis of
our credibility, our collective integrity, saying to them go back to
site.
“Our contractors will go back to site on Monday next week; they have told me they will return to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
“They have not been paid but that is what change means, that this
government is credible and believable. If we say we will pay, we will
pay. And this is what you will see in places like Iheala and a few other
places where we are intervening but what is important now is that we
have met with all our contractors and identified contracts that have
survived the budget, we have approved those contracts for funding and in
the next few days to weeks, the disbursement will start for many of the
roads.”
Fashola, however, lamented that the activities of the Niger Delta
Avengers were seriously affecting power generation due to the vandalism
of oil and gas installations.
He said for Nigeria to be better, citizens must protect government
installations like it was done in other countries, stating that the
newly constructed railway was already being vandalised.
“The Minister of Transportation (Rotimi Amaechi) just told me that
vandals were removing nuts and rails for railway,” Fashola said.
Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio has urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop presenting Nigeria in a bad light.
Akpabio made the comment on Thursday, June 9, 2016, while also recalling the events of June 9, 2015, when Senator Bukola Saraki became Senate President against the wishes of the APC.
“You
(Saraki ) were jittery and sweating on that day. If we had wanted to
take over the Senate, the PDP would have done that. We had the chance to
take all the positions but because we are not greedy, we decided to
allow the APC take over,” Akpabio said according to Vanguard.
“In
the South-South, people have abandoned their homes because of
activities of Niger Delta Avengers. The North is in turmoil; the
South-East is boiling because of agitation. The South-West is the only
peaceful area, but they still send mercenaries to other areas to fight.
“I
want to urge the APC to market this country very well. The way the APC
is saying the country is full of criminals, investors will not come here
to invest. They must change the way they talk about Nigeria. Things
need to change,” he added.
Meanwhile, Saraki has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to look outside the APC for solutions to Nigeria’s problems.

South African woman nabbed at International airport with cocaine
The suspect, Lekganyane Lerato, 34, reportedly an apprentice chef was apprehended by anti-narcotics officials at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja.

A South African woman has reportedly been apprehended at the Lagos international airport while attempting to smuggle 1.210kg cocaine from Nigeria to her home country.
The suspect, Lekganyane Lerato, 34, reportedly an apprentice chef was apprehended by anti-narcotics officials at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja.
Lerato was in the process of boarding a Johannesburg-bound plane with the hard substance concealed in two packages which she had hidden inside her bra.
The drugs were reportedly detected by a female official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) during the passengers’ screening.
NDLEA commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba revealed saying:
“The suspect was intercepted during routine screening of passengers on South African airline. The drug was neatly concealed but certainly not good enough to escape our notice. She is currently under investigation and will be charged to court very soon.”
The suspect during her confession, revealed that she had been lured into drug trafficking by friends.

“Never imagined that the drug would be detected because it was carefully concealed inside my brassiere. A female officer requested to feel my boobs that was how the cocaine was detected. My travel expenses were handled by the sponsor who promised to pay me $3,000 when I get to Johannesburg but all my dreams have been dashed following my arrest.”
The suspect has reportedly been taken into custody.

Muhammad Ali's doctor says the iconic boxer had been "having a tough time in the last year" before his death.
The three-time world heavyweight champion, who had Parkinson's disease for 32 years, died aged 74 from "septic shock due to unspecified natural causes" according to his family.
"The last week has been particularly tough," said Abraham Lieberman, who was with Ali only hours before he died.
"It became apparent God wanted him and we all became reconciled to it."
Lieberman told BBC Radio 5 live's Sportsweek: "Everyone in the back of their minds expected something bad was going to happen but you always hope you will beat the odds because he is someone who always beat the odds - he is not an ordinary person.
"He stood up for his beliefs and what he thought was right. He treated everybody from the humblest person to the biggest celebrity the same - which was fair.
"You could not believe how nice he was outside the ring compared to the way he was inside the ring. I lost a great friend."

Lieberman, a director of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center in Arizona, rejected suggestions that boxing was solely responsible for Ali's illness.
"I don't think it helped but I think he developed it slowly over a number of years," he said.
"People that develop Dementia Pugilistica are usually dead within three or four years - he's had Parkinson's for over 30 years.
"It started on one side, his brain looked relatively good on MRI scan, I can't tell you boxing didn't have a role but I think he had regular Parkinson's disease."
The doctor recalled a story from many years ago when Ali visited an elderly man in a nursing home, who mistook him for another great boxer, Joe Louis.

Lieberman said Ali had been supported by his family throughout his illness.
"His Parkinson's got worse but he had a very devoted family who really treasured him and gave him as much quality of life as you could have," he said.
Former boxer Joe Bugner, who fought Ali twice, was also a guest on Sportsweek and the 66-year-old, speaking from his home in Australia, said: "He and I became one of the closest friends in the boxing world.
"He was unique, not only was a great, great boxer and athlete but also very intelligent and nobody could outwit him as far as the words were concerned."

Governor Adam Oshiomhole has blamed the current economic challenges hitting some states on the alleged misrule that took place during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure.
The Governor said most state Governors in Nigeria have complained that they cannot pay salaries of workers.
He said this after having a closed door meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Oshiomhole said “These issues were discussed yesterday (on Tuesday) and as usual President Buhari has been extremely supportive even though we all agree including PDP governors among us that the crisis that we are being faced was as a result of the misrule of the past.
“The challenge of today is as a result of the abuses of yesterday.
“But inspite of that, President Buhari has been very helpful. But for that, many states would have gone into crisis. I don’t know what you will call a state that is completely insolvent and bankrupt.
“We have to appreciate the President for the leadership he has provided, I mean we all have a greater sense of security today than was the case around this time a year ago.”
USA today reports that pretty teacher, Alexandria Vera had sex with her 13-year-old student for a continuous period of 9months and got pregnant in the process.
24-year-old Alexandria Vera however had to turn herself in yesterday, Wednesday, June 1, after a warrant was issued for her arrest.
The teacher, who is employed at Stovall Middle School, Houston, Texas, is remembered by any of the students as the “cool teacher” because of her lax rules which allowed students use their cell-phones in class. It is also reported that many of the students had long suspected her of having a sexual relationship with the 13-year old eighth-grader whose name is unreported for legal reasons.
According to a neighbour who wishes to remain anonymous, “That kid was always over (Vera’s house in Spring) and she always told (neighbors) it was her brother,”
Court documents show that Vera told investigators that she met the boy in summer school, then they both grew close the following school year.
Vera claimed that the boy introduced her as his girlfriend when she met with his parents in the fall. She told investigators that the boy's parents were quite “very supportive and excited” about the whole thing, even after news of her pregnancy was revealed to them.
Court documents reveal that she and the victim “love each other.” It was also revealed that the two had sex almost daily for nine months.
Child Protective Services however showed up at the school to question Vera and the boy, which made the teacher nervous and got abortion.
She could not be located at her premises, prompting Police to issue a warrant for her arrest before she turned herself in on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, a spokesman for Aldine ISD said Vera has been on administrative leave since last month and that the district is in the process of terminating her employment

Nigerian rapper, Ice Prince, has revealed that he became star struck after recording with South African music legend, Yvonne Chaka Chaka.
Ice Prince described Chaka Chaka as his favorite female artist of all time, just like his mother, who he also referred to in a comment.
The rapper expressed his excitement in the early morning of Friday, June 3, 2016, via his Twitter handle with the quote, "Never been as StarStruck as in this moment! Meeting and recording with my Mums Favorite artiste is Joy unexplainable. YvonneChakaChaka 4lyf".

Ice Prince is expected to drop his much anticipated album “Jos To The World” this year, after recently launching his record label, Super Cool Cat.
Out of twenty girls who left for the party at Lekki, only three came back claiming to have been lucky to escape with their lives.
A total of 17 girls out of 20, from the University of Lagos, Akoka, have gone missing and suspected to be held by ritualists after being invited to a fake party in Lekki.
Three managed to escape the clutches of the their captives and are said to be looking crazed with fear and panic after losing contact with their friends.
This is according to a Twitter user with ID "@Aphrodeity_", who narrated that the girls found themselves in a white house in the middle of no where, instead of the party they were to attend.
She wrote "So about 20 girls in school went partying on Sunday and only 3 came back crying that they barely escaped with their lives."
"One said they were supposed to go to Lekki but somehow they ended up in a white house in the middle of nowhere".
Growing up, the traditional attire known as agbada was mostly worn by

young men in the past. I seriously doubt any young man, ten years ago,
would have willingly worn agbada just for the sake of being
stylish....correct me if i'm wrong. Agbada of old
Fast forward to the present, agbada is no longer just for the big
daddies, we now see young men (and even women) rocking the agbada in a
modernized fashion; where the old school agbada is worn over long
sleeved buba (tunic), these days, they are worn over short sleeved buba.
Where the old school agbada is long, extremely broad and wing-like,
these days they come in shorter lengths and widths and are definitely
not as heavy as the old school type.

An Assistant Superintendent of Police has been reportedly dismissed from the police force for misconduct.
According
to a report by the Punch Newspaper, the Police Service Commission
dismissed the ASP while approving the reduction in rank of another
Superintendent and another ASP for misconduct in the force.
It
was further reported that the commission also rejected 23 appeals from
dismissed policemen for reinstatement and restoration of ranks.
The commission said, “One
serving Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent
of Police received the punishments of severe reprimand while an
Assistant Commissioner, two DSPs and an ASP are to be issued letters of
reprimand. A Superintendent of Police will receive letter of warning
while an ASP was exonerated.”
The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani,
disclosed that the decisions Police Commission's decision were the high
points of the 15th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja.
The plenary meeting was presided over by its Chairman, Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector- General of Police.
The
commission also approved the reinstatement of 10 other police officers,
exonerated three and committed the dismissal of three others to
retirement.
President Muhammadu Buhari
has sympathized with the victims of the fire incidents in Sabon Gari
Market, Kano State and Birnin Kebbi Central Market in Kebbi.
A statement issued in Abuja on Saturday by Mallam Garba Shehu,
Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the president, said
President Buhari commiserated with the government and people of the two
states.
According to the statement, President
Buhari shares in the pain of the victims knowing that the two fire
incidents had created major setbacks for all those that had business
outfits in the markets.
He also noted with sadness
that the incidents had also affected the livelihood of the victims’
families and setting back economic activities in the states.
The
President advised the Kano and Kebbi state governments to find out the
immediate and remote causes of the fire disasters in the states in order
to forestall future occurrences.
President Buhari
also called for strict adherence to precautionary standards in
buildings and operations in all markets to avoid fire out breaks.
He prayed that the Almighty God would comfort and replenish all those that incurred losses in the incidents.
He also noted with sadness that the incidents had also affected the
livelihood of the victims’ families and setting back economic activities
in the states.
