An Assistant Superintendent of Police has been reportedly dismissed from the police force for misconduct.
According
to a report by the Punch Newspaper, the Police Service Commission
dismissed the ASP while approving the reduction in rank of another
Superintendent and another ASP for misconduct in the force.
It
was further reported that the commission also rejected 23 appeals from
dismissed policemen for reinstatement and restoration of ranks.
The commission said, “One
serving Deputy Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent
of Police received the punishments of severe reprimand while an
Assistant Commissioner, two DSPs and an ASP are to be issued letters of
reprimand. A Superintendent of Police will receive letter of warning
while an ASP was exonerated.”
The PSC spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani,
disclosed that the decisions Police Commission's decision were the high
points of the 15th plenary meeting of the commission held in Abuja.
The plenary meeting was presided over by its Chairman, Mike Okiro, a retired Inspector- General of Police.
The
commission also approved the reinstatement of 10 other police officers,
exonerated three and committed the dismissal of three others to
retirement.
