Five deputy commissioners of police were promoted to Commissioners of Police, (N/East two; N/West two; S/West one; two Ag. deputy commissioners of Police were promoted to Deputy Commissioners of Police while a commissioner of Police was promoted to assistant inspector general of Police
According to the force public relations officer, Mrs Olabisi Kolawole, she denied the allegations stressing that there was no iota of truth in the report maintaining that the promotion and promotion of senior officers are done by Police Service Commission (PSC) and not by the Office of the IGP.

In a statement signed by ACP Kolawole, the police insisted that the report was baseless and unfounded .
“The Police authorities wish to categorically state that, there is no iota of truth in the report as promotion and posting of senior officers are done by PSC and not by the Office of the IGP.
“In addition, postings of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to Zonal Commands and Commissioners of Police to State Commands are made by the same body that is saddled with the oversight functions on the Nigeria Police Force based on recommendation of the IGP, who knows the operational competence and chemistry of the officers.

“It is also a fact that promotion in the Force is primarily based on availability of vacancies, seniority and merit. All promotions are subject to satisfying minimum requirements set by PSC and availability of vacancies.”
Meanwhile, officers of the Nigerian police force have been banned from illegal accessing of mobile phones of citizens by the Inspector-general of police, Solomon Arase.
