Ace dancehall act Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie popularly known as Patoranking has unarguably become one of the most influential and successful singers in Nigerian since his debut in 2011.
Having come out from a meager background, Patoranking started his long walk to stardom as a dancer to all genres of music–especially ghetto and dancehall vibes at street jams, carnivals and gigs. No wonder his latest single “make am” tells his struggle as a young artist and his willpower to succeed.
Here are a few reasons why we can’t get our eyes off the “My woman” crooner.

1. Patoranking’s claim to fame began when he dropped his “Alubarika” single in 2013 under Timaya’s Dem Mama Records, he has since then created a niche for himself. He further established his presence with the remix of his second single “Girlie O” featuring Tiwa Savage in 2014. In the same year, he won the coveted Rookie of the Year award at the Headies.


2. The former rat poison seller explained that the name Patoranking was given to him by a Jamaican who had love for his music and respect for his personality; “ranking” meaning highly respected, was added to “Pato” to make Patoranking,.
3. One wouldn’t be wrong to say 2014 was the year for the reggae act, he not only became the most sought after act in the country, he took center stage as he won Best New Act at the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA).

The signer also signed onto the largest reggae music label in the world called Foston Musik in the same year, making him the first Nigerian/African dancehall artist to attain the height.  The record label has over fifty four acts on its roster including Sean Paul, Bounty Killer, Mr. Vegas and Shaggy among others.

4. Asides from his MAMA award, He won Next Rated act, Best Collabo and the Best Reggae and Dancehall categories at the 2014 Headies. In the same year, he won the coveted Rookie of the Year award at Headies.
5. The 25-year old is not just successful and talented but he sure has eyes for big stuffs, he has eyes for curvy Ghanaian actress Joselyn Dumas as he named her his crush. What an eye! It’s not clear if he is in a romantic situation with the actress as they have been spotted together though. It wouldn’t be a bad idea or would it? He revealed recently that he is pretty much single and searching.


6. Apart from being a good artiste and multi-award winning musician, his milestones in the music scene has landed him endorsement deal with Skyy Vodka Nigeria and Airtel brand ambassador.
7. Not many knew that before the glitz and fame Patoranking was a member of a six man Afro hip-hop group known as Da Flavour Squad as the lead vocalist and the youngest, performing shows in Lagos and its environs. But he decided to take a leap of faith to pursue a solo career.
8. It seems the singer takes family especially his big brother duties seriously.He shared that his siblings inspire his work as he explained why he left in search for a better life.
