Chapped
lips can be dry, cracked, and painful. They can be caused by a variety
of things, including dry weather, sun, licking your lips, certain
medications/products and foods. They tend to be especially bothersome
during the cold winter months or as we say around these parts,
Harmattan.
If you live in a harsh climate, you likely end up with chapped lips
especially this season. You can address this problem head-on by using
moisture to your advantage. Thankfully, you can prevent them by
following a few easy practices.- Drink lots of water; this might sound like a cliché but remember dehydration is real and drinking water would keep you hydrated and that includes your lips.
- Place a slice of cucumber on your lips for 5 to 10 minutes to help hydrate your lips.
- When you lips are chapped you end up with cracks, simple place aloe Vera gel on your lips to help heal them.
- Apply moisturizer to your lips in the morning immediately when you wake up.
- Daily use of lip balm moisturizes help protects your lips from elements that work against them.
- Avoid moistening your lips with saliva because they only make it worse.
- Avoid citrus fruits during the dry/cold season because the acids dry and chap your lips.
- Sometimes dried lips might be due to toothpaste irritation, so change your toothpaste.
- Apply honey on your lips before bed every night.
- Use Vaseline and coconut oil for chapped lips they are effective as lip balm.
